In the months of October and November, all fine art enthusiasts are welcomed to enjoy the sophisticated and elegant musicianship of Konstantin Scherbakov. Scherbakov will be undertaking a CD release tour to Johannesburg, Durban, Harare, Cape Town and Stellenbosch. His tour does not only include solo performances, but also the chance to see him perform as a soloist with both KZNPO in Durban, and CPO in Cape Town.
Scherbakov’s repertorium reflects a tasteful artistic output that focuses on scarcely performed repertoire and virtuostic programmes. Besides his status as solo pianist, Scherbakov can boast with over 50 concertos as a part of his repertoire, and has performed as soloist with some of the world’s most highly acclaimed orchestras. As recording artist Scherbakov has also not failed to impress. He has already taken up a few uniquely exciting and significant ventures, which includes the recording of all Leopold Godowsky, Resphigi and Shostakovitch’s piano works, as well as all Tchaikovsky, Resphigi, Medtner and Scriabin’s piano concertos. His most recent success, for which he has received great international praise, is his recording of the F.Liszt piano transcriptions of Beethoven’s complete symphonies.
Two of Scherbakov’s solo albums have been released by the local South African record label, TwoPianist Records; Me on wings of Song (February 2011) and Soirée Russe (May 2012). The concert tour is a undertaking of TwoPianists Artists Management, which is a devision of TwoPianists Records. Me on wings of song is a collection of all Scherbakov’s favourite encore pieces, whilst Soirée Russe is an expression of the charms of Russian Romanticism.
Scherbakov’s solo performances also promise to take you on a fantastic journey through the Romantic past, with works by F.Schubert, F.Liszt and C.Saint-Saëns. The audience can look forward to a powerful performance of Tortentanz, as well as a Liszt/Horowitz arrangement of Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre. The two concerto performances include F.Liszt’s second Concerto in A major with KZNPO, and with CPO he will be performing Beethoven’s third Concerto in c minor.
