The South African mezzo-soprano Michelle Breedt, who has recently been described as ‘one of the best singers ever’ following her appearance in the title role of Die Passagieren in London’s English National Opera, is visiting South Africa for a exclusive concert tour. This tour celebrates the release of her CD titled Shakespeare Inspired that was recorded by the TwoPianists Records. The CD, accompanied by Nina Schumann on piano, has already received a 5-star review by the French magazine, Diapason, as well as the coveted German Critics Award.
Breedt has made a huge international career for herself, appearing in the most prominent concert halls and opera stages, including Bayreth and Vienna State Opera. She has collaborated with such artists conductors as Placido Domingo, Thomas Hampson, Renee Fleming, Diana Damrau, Nina Stemme, Peter Schreier, Olaff Bar to mention but a few. She is also Professor Extraordinaire at Stellenbosch University.
The featured repertoire for the recitals in Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Pretoria is selected from the CD, all inspired by William Shakespeare, and Breedt describes is as ‘fun music, a beautiful melody with no stiff upper lip’.
In her only appearance with an orchestra, Breedt takes to the stage with the KZN Philharmonic in a sweeping gala concert of arias, overtures and choruses from favourite operas including The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, Don Carlos and The Merry Widow. The selections of the artists, supported by Durban’s own SA Singers and the Durban Symphonic Choir, will be sure to captivate and inspire the audience.
Concertgoers are also offered a free glass of wine from the Spier Wine Farm. The Creative Block range, that has already won several international awards, are associated with creativity and is therefore the perfect partner for an evening of outstanding quality.
